Please forgive us for being the shameless tourists that we are...but we can't help taking photos of every new place we take Emmett!

David had the day off on Thursday, so he and Emmett went to the farmers' market in the morning while I stayed home to begin tackling the mountain of data I have to read for my dissertation (JBY -- I couldn't justify coming and NOT bringing anything with me.) After Emmett's naps, we set off for our daily adventure.

Our first stop was to the Mariage Frères salon de thé on the boutique-filled rue du Bourg-Tibourg in the 6th to pick out a birthday gift for Emmett's Uncle Dave. None of us had been here before and stepping into the doors was like entering a tea museum. The room in which the tea is stored in giant canisters was darkened and hushed. The young men behind the counter answering questions and filling tea orders wore linen suits. Besides more than 400 kinds of tea, the shop also sells an exquisite array of teapots, teacups, candies, and cookies. We'll definitely be back before we leave in December.

After a short stroll to the Georges Pompidou Museum to give Emmett a snack (we didn't go inside), we went home, packed up some food for Emmett, and walked to one of our favorite Paris restaurants, Chez Omar. This North African restaurant is located in the Marais, and we've never visited Paris without stopping for a meal here. We requested a seat in the back where the sign reads "Bienvenue au club des non-fumeurs" : Welcome to the non-smokers club. We dined there alone... at least until our meal was almost finished!

Emmett got to taste some couscous, stewed squash, carrots, and turnips, in addition to his rice cereal, egg yolk, and salmon. David sneaked him a few tastes of his first frite (french fry), which Emmett loved. In addition to the couscous and vegetable stew, we ordered a magret de canard (duck breast) and brochettes d'agneau (a lamb brochette). Omar himself came by to chat and said good night to us as we were leaving.

A week from today, our good friends Emmet Sun and Chris Jung will be arriving for a visit! We can't wait to see familiar faces!!

You brought DATA?!? Okay, okay. Let's see how useful that data is in the end. You're on "vacation", remember?

Your food sounds awesome! And I love the smile on Emmett's face in that last picture.

Think about Les Olivades in the 11th? with Emmet and Chris.
