Dinner at Fish - La Boissonerie

We had dinner out with David's parents, sans Emmett who stayed home with Anabel, earlier this week at a restaurant called Fish - La Boissonerie, located in the 6th arrondissement in the neighborhood of St. Germain.

The restaurant is co-owned by an American which explained why we heard American English being spoken at several tables nearby. The atmosphere was casual and hip and the service was smart, warm, and efficient. We loved our meal there and would happily return. David and I both felt that the menu reminded us of many we've seen in San Francisco restaurnats, more than any other restaurant we've been to so far in Paris. The chef, Matthew Ong, is Asian which explains the fusion-y creations.

Prices were reasonable as well. 2 courses for 28 Euros, 3 courses for 32.50 Euros. Our meal started with an amuse-bouche: a bowl of paper-thin slices of radish sprinkled with salted ground toasted sesame seeds. (We should make this at home, I thought.) We all couldn't get enough of the bread, brought into the restaurant in baskets throughout the night by our servers who would run to the bakery across the street when the bread supply was low.

We started with some great entrees (appetizers): (Sorry, the photos just don't do justice to the food)
Gambas frit et tomate farcie à la mozzarella di bufala (Fried prawns with a warm tomato stuffed with buffalo-milk mozzarella); Carpaccio de thon à l'huile parfumée à la sauge (Tuna carpaccio with sage-infused oil); and Salade de crabe avec vinaigrette à l'orange (Crab salad with orange vinaigrette).

Everything we tasted was fresh and clean-tasting, and the presentation of each dish was so pretty -- not too fussy, but still done with care.

Our plats consisted of Rascasse rôtie, pomme de terre ratte et prunes sèches sautées, jus de volaille aux noisettes (Roasted red snapper with sauteed small potatoes and dried prunes in a poultry broth with hazelnuts); Cabillaud, pâte imprimée d'herbes, sucs de légumes (Cod with fresh herb-imprinted pasta in a vegetable broth);

Daurade, foie gras poêlé avec confiture d'endive et champignons de bois au cacao (Daurade (fish variety) with panfried foie gras, braised endive, wild mushrooms and cacao); and finally, Truite cuite à la vapeur, risotto aux calamars et mousseline au wasabi (Steamed trout with calamari risotto and wasabi mousseline).

Again, the flavor of all four of our fish dishes was highlighted by the unique ingredients and combinations of flavors. Every morsel was cleaned from our plates.

Believe it or not, we had room for dessert: Terrine de chocolat et cafe, coulis, glace aux lentilles and Crème brulée à l'orange.

We'll definitely return and recommend Fish despite the mostly English-speaking crowd and the smoke.
